About the Journal
Far & Wide started as a travel notebook — a place to record the things that wouldn't fit in a photo: the smell of a souk at dusk, the particular quality of light on a mountain, the meal that turned out to be the best of a whole trip.
Over time it became something that others found useful: not a list of hotels or a comparison of flight prices, but honest accounts of what places are actually like — the parts guidebooks sanitise and Instagram crops out.
Every destination covered here has been visited in person. We don't write about places we haven't been. We try to say things that are true and specific rather than things that are technically accurate but useless. "Popular with tourists" tells you nothing. "Arrives at the viewpoint looking like a football stadium at half time" tells you something.
We accept no sponsored trips, paid placements, or affiliate commissions on hotel bookings. The recommendations are independent because they have to be.
Questions? Disagreements? A destination we should cover? Write to us.
